Since 2000, our group has been involved in various spatial data management projects in neuroscience and other medical fields, working primarily with collaborators from the National Center for Microscopy and Imaging Research (NCMIR) and the UCSD Department of Neuroscience.
Since 2008, we have been working with the International Neuroinformatics Coordinating Facility (INCF), developing infrastructure for brain atlas interoperability. See the INCF project wiki at http://code.google.com/p/incf-dai to learn about atlas services and the Waxholm Markup Language for encoding of brain atlas data.
Ilya Zaslavsky lead the INCF Program on Digital Brain Atlasing. A recent article on digital brain atlasing, an essential tool in neuroscience research, can be found at: http://journal.frontiersin.org/article/10.3389/fninf.2014.00074/abstract.
